Former Fox News host Megyn Kelly has accused the Morning Joe hosts of dishonesty and “faux journalism” following their recent meeting with President-elect Donald Trump in Florida.
On Monday, Joe Scarborough and his wife Mika Brzezinski, co-hosts of the MSNBC talk show, announced that they visited Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate over the weekend to “restart communication.”
However, given the pair’s repeated criticism of the Republican during his reelection campaign, the trip has led to them being labeled hypocrites by both political figures and many in the media.
“I searched for a way to respond appropriately and I called on my 10 years as a litigator in addition to my now 20 [years] as a journalist,” Kelly said during Monday’s episode of her Spotify podcast.
“And I think I found the perfect phrase: ‘Go f*** yourselves. Go f*** yourselves, you dishonest jokes of faux journalists.'”
Kelly prefaced her outburst at Scarborough and Brzezinski with clips of the two talking about the Republican candidate throughout the election campaign.
These included Brzezinski commenting on Trump’s “obsession with Hitler,” declaring that the Democrats were running against “a dark, dismal fascist—and increasingly obviously fascist—person,” as well as Scarborough saying: “He will imprison, he will execute whoever he’s allowed to imprison, execute.”
“That was before Trump won,” Kelly said. “This morning, it’s the dawn of a new day.”
“What an absurd farce that was,” she added, before criticizing the pair’s apparent U-turn on the president-elect.
“Which one was insincere?” Kelly asked. “He’s Hitler, or now we’re going to speak truth to power and find a way of speaking to and working with Donald Trump. Which one was a lie?”
Her guest, journalist and author Glenn Greenwald, went on to call Scarborough and Brzezinski “the most humiliating and pathetic people in all of corporate media,” and said that they “don’t believe in anything other than their own careers and their own ratings.”
Greenwald concluded that the visit was motivated by Scarborough and Brzezinski’s belief that “the one thing that can save their jobs again is reestablishing a relationship with the fascist dictator Donald Trump in order to get him back on their show.”
Newsweek has contacted MSNBC for a response to Kelly and Greenwald’s statements.
Many others have launched similar critiques at the couple for their visit to Mar-a-Lago.
Political commentator and former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann posted his response on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday, writing: “Look, this isn’t complex. Joe Scarborough has always been a political whore.”
The View co-host Sunny Hostin accused the couple of “kissing the ring,” while former Republican presidential nominee Nikki Haley on Monday said: “It’s not that they suddenly saw the light. It’s that they saw the ratings.”
